Esther Ezegbe
Founder
Esther is the founder of Roots2Philosophy. She holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Nottingham and an MA in Philosophy from King's College London. She is currently a PhD candidate at King's College London, specialising in Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Mind.

Esther teaches philosophy to undergraduate students and has delivered modules on Metaphysics, Ethics, and Political and Economic Philosophy.
Beyond higher education, she has also taught philosophy to primary and secondary school students through workshop-based programmes.
Esther founded Roots2Philosophy after recognising that philosophical inquiry develops essential skills that are invaluable across all areas of a young person's life. Despite its importance, philosophy often remains inaccessible. She is committed to making philosophy available to all young people, particularly those who may otherwise not be able to access it.

Outside of this, Esther is also passionate about diversity and inclusion within higher education more broadly. She has led research and initiatives that examine the trajectories of racially minoritised groups and explored how institutions can better support progression from undergraduate to postgraduate study. With almost a decade of academic experience, Esther brings a wealth of knowledge, extensive teaching expertise, and a genuine passion for making philosophy more accessible to young people.

Anisa Almjbarae
Programme Director & Lead Workshop Facilitator

Anisa Almjbarae has a first-class BSc in Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a first-class MA in Philosophy from University College London. She has particular interests in the philosophy of conspiracy theories, philosophy of language, moral philosophy, and epistemology.

Anisa has taught philosophy workshops to students and the general public, including sessions on the value of philosophy in personal and professional life. She has also delivered practical sessions to non-philosophy students on how to critically read and write philosophy papers. Recently, she completed the Foundations of Philosophical Enquiry training course with The Philosophy Foundation and has also spoken on a panel at King's College London on the value of postgraduate study in philosophy from BME perspectives.

Anisa brings academic rigour, creative curiosity, and a love for teaching to R2P. As such, Anisa designs workshops which are informative, accessible and fun—helping students lay strong intellectual 'roots' for thinking critically about the world. She encourages students to bring their backgrounds and lived experiences into dialogue with complex philosophical ideas.
Our Story
Roots2Philosophy was founded in 2022 by Esther Ezegbe. We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to think deeply, express themselves confidently, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

During her studies, Esther recognised a lack of diversity within academic philosophy and saw that the discipline often failed to reflect the world around her. Her research identified accessibility as a key issue: philosophy is rarely introduced to young people, particularly those in state schools before A-level or university. She founded Roots2Philosophy to address this.

Esther believes that studying philosophy helps young people develop vital skills that support their personal, academic, and professional growth, and that every young person should have access to these opportunities. At Roots2Philosophy, we are committed to breaking down barriers and making philosophy accessible, inclusive, and relevant to all young people, especially those from underrepresented communities.
2024
Esther and Anisa now work closely together, delivering philosophy workshops to young people in schools and community settings. Together, they create engaging and inclusive spaces where students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and explore new ideas.

They share a vision to expand the reach of Roots2Philosophy and are committed to bringing philosophy into schools across the UK, ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to benefit from philosophical thinking.
2022
In 2024, Esther met Anisa at the Royal Institute of Philosophy, where they connected over a shared passion for philosophical thinking and a vision to make it more widely accessible. In 2025, Anisa joined the team as Programme Director and Lead Facilitator.

Having first encountered philosophy at age 16 during her A-levels, Anisa was drawn to its power to encourage independent thinking, make connections, and question ideas often taken for granted. This experience inspired her ongoing mission to widen access to philosophical thinking and make it engaging for all. She is committed to amplifying diverse voices and creating inclusive spaces where everyone can participate in philosophical conversations.
